Karaincir is a small village near Akyarlar on the south-west of the Bodrum Peninsula. To the east, Karaincir Bay with a sandy coastline lies approximately 550 meters long. This humble village and beach attract tens of thousands visitors each year.
Karaincir is a quiet place where you can spend hours by sitting on the sandy beach and watching blue Aegean waters. The village itself does not offer long nights but frequent minibus services can take you to wherever you want within the peninsula through Bodrum and Turgutreis. Small family run restaurants in Akyarlar, history and night life at Bodrum, they all accessible via these small buses.
Although there are lots of accommodation options like hotels and pensions in the village, it is also popular destination for daytrips for its sandy beach and shallow sea.
This is one of the few sandy beaches of Bodrum Peninsula which makes it very popular swimming destination. This is a small bay with about 550 meters coast line. The width of the beach varies between 15 to 25 meters.
The sea floor goes slightly deeper as you walk toward the open sea. The shallow sea zone is quite long enough to have fun with your friends or children by playing games in the middle of the sea.
The first thing that took my attention was the sea temperature when I dived into waters. It was colder than many of the other bays by 2-3 degrees Celsius. This is something precious if the outside temperature is about 40 Celsius! When I asked the locals they told me that this is because of the Aegean currents and availability of a rich water table beneath the surface.
The shore is divided between different restaurants and beach clubs. Each have their own sunbeds for their customers. They all offer food and soft / hard drinks. It’s better to be thirsty or hungry because if you want to use those sunbeds, you need to drink or eat something. Just check their prices before deciding where to seat.
There are a few piers along the coastline where you can sunbathe but I personally prefer to stay on the sands and have chat with my friends or read my book.
From the Bodrum town center and Turgutreis, you can find minibuses to take you Karaincir or vice versa. It is a part of the Bodrum's public transport options. So just go to the minibus station and ask for Akyarlar minibuses and don’t forget to tell the driver where you want him to drop you.
Karaincir is only 16 kilometers away from Bodrum but it can take up to 45 minutes during the high season, which is between June and August. This is because of high passenger traffic. The rest of the year it only takes 20 to 25 minutes to get there.
I have never take a minibus from Turgutreis but people who did said it takes around 15 to 20 minutes to get there in the summer.
If you are already in Akyarlar a 15 to 20 minute walk will take you to Karaincir. But I would take a minibus if it is hot out there and save the sun for the beach.
